Our History

After completing his studies at the University of Louvain, Belgium, Jos Bellefroid, and his wife Lydia, spent a year (1968) in South Africa while Jos did his Masters Degree at the University of Pretoria as an exchange student. They fell in love with the country, its people and the climate and promised each other to return to this lovely country one day. The opportunity aroused after 33 years' service at the Belgian Banker's Association, in Brussels when Jos left his position as Director and CEO of the Belgian Bankers Academy to fulfill their dream. They moved to South Africa in 2001.

Their daughter, Els, a qualified nurse, joined them soon afterwards and is now responsible for the management of the guesthouse.

In July 2004, Jos passed away. Three years later, Lydia lost the fight against cancer. Jos and Lydia's 5 children decided to pursue their parent's life-long dream in Africa at Villa Africa.

Els married Jaco and has two children with her South African husband. She is running the guesthouse, together with her brother Ben, who also decided to move to this beautiful country.
